Holly Mehedin, originally from New Jersey, began her dance training with Julie Caprio of the Hamilton Ballet Theatre. First immersed in Ballet and Jazz; she later added Tap, Modern and Musical Theatre to her repertoire.
As a graduate of Mercer County, Holly received her Associate Degree in the Fine Arts-Dance. From anatomy and kinesiology, to ballet, jazz, and modern; her education not only increased her passion for dance, but also developed within her an understanding of this world -a trait she has leveraged as teacher and choreographer.
Upon finishing college, Holly started her own venture, Dance Stars; a local studio that she and her best friend built from the ground up. She successfully developed and ran the studio for four years all while also launching a competition program. Holly's students and choreography won numerous awards and recognition, including several titles, top scores, overalls, and national titles. This propelled her to expand into different endeavors in the Big Apple.
By traveling to New York City three times a week, she started dancing at Broadway Dance Center, receiving guidance from teachers such as April Cook, Shea Sullivan, Justin Boccito, Aaron Tolson, Michelle Barber, and Julie Garofalo, in both private and classroom settings. She developed both personal and professional relationships with many teachers, and has studied with several Master Teachers such as Doug Caldwell, Mandy Moore, Mia Michaels and more.
After moving on from Dance Stars, Holly successfully started and ran a competition program at Kathy Henkel School of Dance. She also kept perfecting her skill set at Koresch School of Dance, spent time performing with the Ballet South Company of New Jersey, and auditioned for Season 4 of "So You Think You Can Dance". She was also a member of "FanTAPulous," a group of tappers who performed in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Holly spent years involved in the competition curcuit. She started off as a dancer, then choreographer, and most lastly, judge. She now is on the panel for Belive Dance and has judged for many other well known events. . Her keen eye and attention to detail make her a well rounded judge, and she loves being able to help the next gereation of dancers grow!
Now she spends most of her time making sure her students get the best possible eduation. Her classes are challenging, very technical, and always geared to make the dancer work and think. She teaches vocabulary, and instills a passion for dance, its history and learning. Her students have gone on to win scolarships to major universities, and most have gone on to dance in companies, cruise ships, or become teachers themselves. She teaches multiple disciplines and ages, and has a fun, motivating way to make students WANT to be in class.
After residing in NYC the past 10 years, she made the move onto Long Island. Presently she teaches at several studios in NY and NJ, stays involved at Broadway Dance, and attends conventions and seminars, most notably the Tremaine Dance Intensive and the Dance Teacher Summit. She travels all over the tri state area, teaching guest artist classes, workshops, and intensives in multiple genres. She has performed with Mr. Anthony Locasico in a Tap number presented in a NYC choreography festival, and she has also worked with the Astoria Tap Crew.
Holly is also a distance runner, which has added a whole new aspect to her teaching. She has taken what she has learned about her body as an athlete and applied it to her dancers, focusing on buidling strong athletes as well as artisits. Time is spent on muscle recovery, injury prevention, and care for the body as it is the only one we have. That, coupled with the nocice of injuries in some of her dancers, has made her decide to go back to school and pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. She hopes to continue her work in educating young dancers and helpping with injury prevention.
She has most recently recieved her certification from Tspheres, and new and innovative way to continue to practice self care and massage therapy. Sh has spent time working with the founder, Stephanie Whittier, to continue her education and be able to pass on the Tspheres method to her dancers! Self care is incredibly important to her, and she is thrilled to be working with such a fabulous company!
